Diamond in the rough – Albergaria a Velha

imageMealhada to Albergaria a Velha
A short 24 Klm walk this morning. I changed out of trainers into boots which certainly gave me more support but were killing me by lunch time. Luckily I arrived at pensione by then and I took them off. I have bought some gel heel inserts. So we’ll see how they travel tomorrow.
Very down market hotel, dark, dingy, mouldy room , no light, no air con, no wifi, no hot water, but lovely vino tinto and very friendly people.
The dinner tonight was simple, elegant and perfecto!
Olives & Brau ( whole grain soda bread)
Omelette with a perfectly dressed simple salad
And coconut caramel pudding- Omg my mouth is salivating remembering it.
Never judge a book by its cover is an old saying and so true.
The beds have springs that squeak – must be 50+ years old but so comfortable
The walk was good this morning, along old roman roads throughout quiet village streets. Walked alone most of the morning and then met a fellow Pilgram from Portugal as I was checking my directions ( lost yet again) – only thrice today. Simone and I then negotiated the maps and way markers together, sometimes they are very confusing and we got here in time for lunch. Simone has continued on – wished I could, however that’s one of the problems with pre booking everything. Far too organised. I have met loads of people who just walked and stayed in albergues or hostels – and very cheap. Maybe next time….
If anyone is considering thinking about doing the Camino, please let me know, I would be happy to help with the do’s and don’ts- I’ve certainly done them both:)
Tomorrow is a big walk so I’ll just rest up this afternoon.
The pics above and below both have way markers on them . As you can guess they are easily missed..
